Our GRIDS on the move!

Finally after many weeks of hard work by several members, we are happy to report that 56101, 56301 and 56302 should be headed for Barrow Hill depot this Wednesday. The Stratford 47 Group’s Class 47 No. 47580 (County of Essex) will be hauling the train and we are very grateful to them for agreeing to it’s use. Provisionally, we will depart from Dereham Yard at 10:00 with 56101 heading to Wymondham to run round, and then to Ely, Royston, Welwyn Garden City Up Yard to run round again before travelling down the ECML again to Hitchin Depot to collect 56301 and 56302. From Hitchin the convoy will travel direct to Barrow Hill. As soon as more detailed timings are available, we will publish them here so that members can be in with a chance of photoing the move.

Group Locos Update, 28th Feb

Just a short post to update members of where we stand with 56040 and 56301. Work continues apace to strip 56040, currently at Barrow Hill, of useful spares. These spares will then be catalogued and placed into secure storage as part of the groups strategic spares pool (you can never have too many cab gauges, honest!). Other circumstances have changed meaning we now have more time before 56040 has to make her last journey to the cutter’s yard. Rest assured that we will post details of any movement on this website first for members.

Our thanks go to everyone who’s helped with 56040 over the last few weeks, especially to the Class 58 Locomotive Group guys who have been invaluable. Cheers!

Our 56301 and Edward Stevenson’s ‘302 are still at Hitchin OTPD, and the logistics of their onward movement are being looked into.

IN PICTURES: 56/3s move to Hitchin

We’ve had a load of excellent images sent in to us of Thursday’s transfer move with 56301 and 302 from Doncaster to Hitchin. They are now parked up in the former down side diesel depot awaiting sale by the administrators of Fastline Freight that went into liquidation earlier this year. Fastline 56s on the move south

Ex Fastline Class 56s Nos. 301 and 302 are off to Hitchin OTPD tomorrow (Thursday 29th) for further storage. The locos have been redundant since 2008 when Fastline put their intermodal services on hold. The company went into liquidation earlier this year, it is planned the locos will be put up for auction eventually. Colas Rail are doing the move with 47739, some times are below. Thanks to John Hooson for the original tip off at the weekend…
